The association “Mosaico Oggi “,has
its legal seat at Via San Girolamo Emiliani 15, -00152- Rome, where the
programme of activities for the year 2007 is held in collaboration with “Il
Comune di Bracciano” seat of degree certification in Project and environment
Administration as part of the Architectural Faculty of “Università degli
Studi La Sapienza” of Rome and the Agrarian Faculty of “Università degli Studi”
of Tuscia(Tuscany)
The Association Mosaico Oggi and its
collaborators
ANNOUNCE
A): an
International Competition on the project of a mosaic to be set up in a Park.
This project is opened to all mosaic
students in Art Academies, high school specializing in art subjects, Art
Institutes, public and private Schools of Art.
B): an International
Competition for the knowledge and study of contemporary mosaic,
addressed to all students of Contemporary Art and to all university students
who have passed a History of Contemporary Art examination with reference to
contemporary mosaic and its situation, and also to students who will be
preparing a dissertation on artistic expression and/or who wish to develop a
deeper understanding on this issue.
C): an
International Competition on the knowledge of old and contemporary mosaic,
addressed to secondary school
students who have had the opportunity of learning about mosaic during their
studies and want to develop this further.

D): a Study Seminar
that gives credits for the future involving in-depth tuition in Planning and
Utilization of the landscape and public resorts, addressed to all
students, including those studying architecture.
E): an Open Forum
in which artists, persons studying art, mosaic schools, students, the
authorities interested in cultural and didactic policies, expecially in cities
that have a strong mosaic tradition, can not only debate the need to rescue,
reproduce or restore mosaic but also encourage an interest in contemporary
mosaic amongst younger students by helping them explore and develope their
creativity.
A school should be considered by
students as a place that is always ready to new forms of creativity.
A new interest must be discovered in
ancient tesserae that will help to move them away from the purely
historical and traditional and, thanks to new methods and forms of expression,
to revive and renew them.
Other topics and the exact programme
for the Seminar and the Forum will be communicated as soon as the speakers have
confirmed their participation.
The Seminar and
the Forum will take place on Monday, 30 April 2007 at 9 a.m. in “Aula Magna” of
SSAI, 386 Veientana St, 00189 - Rome.
There will be a Prize-giving
ceremony for all winners at the end of the workshops.
All projects, proposals, ideas, and
brief dissertations and the mosaics must be sent , with self addressed
packaging and postage, not later than MONDAY APRIL 16, 2007 to the following

1)the works
presented in A) of this announcement which is the Competition for a project of
a mosaic to be set up in a Park must compound of :
a) A Project with an
accompanying up scale drawing;
b) A Prototype of a Mosaic done
to scale with its dimensions, it should be no more than 1m,x1m,x1,50m, or a detail
of a Mosaic realized in adequate scale drawing with the following dimensions,
no more than 1 m² (for ex. 100x100 or 50x200,etc.);
2)All the Mosaic
works are sent at their on risk and paid for by the participants, and collected
at the end of the Meeting on April 30 2007 or not later than May 5, 2007 (or at
a date arranged with the organization). All the works not collected in time
will not be returned and they will become property of the Association “ Mosaico
Oggi” and could be used by it at its unobjectionable judgment for future art
exhibitions in Italy or abroad and/or for future contemporary Mosaic Museum.
3) the works of
points A) – B) – C) of this announcement, which arrive as paper works or DVDs
will not be returned.
One award is for
Mosaic students older than 18 years old or who is 18 on April 30 2007 and
will consist of a three week workshop in Strumiza, Macedonia from 1 to 20
August 2007. This award is the beginning of an international relationship
between the Nations and Contemporary Mosaic.
This prestigious international award
exists for 45 years and every year gathers between 15 and 25 winners from every
country in the world.
During their stay in Strumiza the
winners will realize mosaic works that will be exhibited together with the works
of the other participants at the Macedonian Symposium that takes place in
September to mark their National Liberation celebrations.
A further award
for mosaic students under 18 years of age who are not yet 18 on April 30, 2007, an
will consist of a two week workshop in Bitola, Macedonia. During this period
the winners, together with the winners from other countries, will participate
in a painting Symposium and for this occasion will realize a landscape work of
ancient Bitola.
The third award
is for university students of Art History and Architecture, and
will consist of a stay of three days in Florence.
This award
completes the special award scheme offered by the Association “Mosaico Oggi”,
which will culminate in an exhibition of all the winning works as well as all
the works selected by the Scientific Committee (of all the sections). This
exhibition will take place in Salone Brunelleschi, del Palagio di parte Guelfa,
Florence , Saturday, May 12th 2007. The time table of the reports
will be communicated later.
The Scientific
Committee that chooses the works will assign other awards.
This will take place in “Aula Magna”
of the SSAI (“Scuola Superiore dell’Amministrazione dell’Interno”, 386
Veientana St. – 00189- Rome) on Monday, 30 April 2007 at 9 a.m. and will follow
a programme, details of which will be notified as soon as possible.
The Architect
R.Todaro, Head of the Architecture Faculty of “La Sapienza” University, will
open the meeting.
The prize-giving for the winning projects
and works chosen by the Scientific Committee will take place at the end of the
meeting
This event will, for the third time,
bring the seminar and the prize-giving to the SSAI, a prestigious institution
which, although not linked with art, shares a common philosophy (expressed by a
previous director, prefect Carlo Mosca at the last meeting) “…our worlds, even
different, are linked by the desire to maintain the process of modernization in
training and improving the managerial abilities of officials: this school can
offer a more comprehensive education in professional approaches, thanks to the
constantly evolving openings into the artistic world.”
The primary aim of the Contest, now
in its third edition, is the important duty of stimulating a new interest in
Contemporary Mosaic and it also needs to encourage creativity among younger
people.
